HIGHLIGHTS
HIGHLIGHTS
With 1,100 attendees, 70 breakout sessions, 4 tours, and a fun run, OFN’s 30th Conference was full of learning, professional networking, and fun.
- We celebrated 30 years of opportunity finance with videos from 30.ofn.org, our new archive of historic documents, photos, and conversations.
- In our opening plenary, Diversity, Inclusion, and Equity in the CDFI Industry, Adrienne Mansanares led a provocative and informative discussion with Mary Elizabeth Evans, Lenwood Long, and Nonet Sykes, kicking off a long-term challenge to improve equity in our industry. The conversation continued at OFN Connect, where attendees discussed the roles of OFN, their own organizations, and themselves in advancing equity in the industry. A report on these discussions and next steps is forthcoming.
- In his State of the Industry Speech, “Because Equity,” OFN President and CEO Mark Pinsky asked you to look at every aspect of your work through an equity lens and to ask yourself, “What can I do differently to make opportunity more equal—both inside my organization and externally in the communities I serve.” Watch Mark’s full speech or download the prepared text.
- Bill Bynum, CEO of Hope Enterprise Corporation/Hope Credit Union, received the prestigious Ned Gramlich Award for Responsible Finance for his long history of service in the opportunity finance field.
- We heard from the three NEXT Opportunity Award winners—Florida Community Loan Fund, New Jersey Community Capital, and Rural Community Assistance Corporation—and honored Impact Seven with a NEXT Seed Capital Award.
- Goldman Sachs 10,000 Small Businesses, the Surdna Foundation, and Opportunity Finance Network awarded the first-ever Small Business Leader Award for Mission-Driven Lenders to New York Business Development Corporation (NYBDC), the first-place winner, and Opportunity Fund, the runner-up.
- At the Native CDFI Awards ceremony, Hawaii First Federal Credit Union received the Circle of Honor Award and Marvin M. Ginn, Jr. of Native Community Finance received the Visionary Leader Award for Outstanding Achievement.
- Brenda Roush, Vice President of Community Engagement at The Gathering Place, this year’s OFN Conference Justice Grantee, spoke eloquently about her organization’s work, Denver’s only daytime drop-in center for women, their children, and transgendered individuals experiencing homelessness or poverty.
